Running a Roverway themed camp

We have Scouting friends all over the world, each with their own unique experience and skills for life. Why not take on a Roverway style camp and try new challenge, make new friends, and make new memories!

Roverway is a European event for Scouts and Guides aged 16-22, which takes place every 3-6 years.

The next Roverway will take place in Norway in summer 2024, and our UK Contingent includes participants, International Service Team (IST) and Contingent Management Team (CMT).

Roverway is a unique event due to its age range and emphasis on youth-led adventure. Find out more about the history of Roverway since 2003.

Unlike a Jamboree, Roverway is more of an independent experience, with groups of patrols (5-8 young people) taking part alongside other European patrols.

Roverway is split into 3 parts:

  1. A four day 'Path'; where 1 UK Patrol will team with 6 other international patrols for a semi-independent expedition.
  2. A Jamboree-Style main camp experience; Everyone comes together on one site to continue the international experience at a larger scale.
  3. A Post-event for the UK contingent; Time to for the UK Contingent come together for a shared and unique experience.

The next Roverway will take place in Norway in summer 2024. The event is divided into three parts: a semi-independent expedition, a jamboree-style camp and a post-event experience. Find out more on our Roverway 2024 page.

Norway is a Scandinavian country in Northern Europe that has mountains, glaciers and big bodies of water, which are called fjords. Many Norwegians embrace the nature through outdoor activities such as kayaking, hiking and skiing. Oslo is the capital of Norway.

Getting Ready:

Group your young people into 'Patrols' with a Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader. Each Patrol should have between 5-8 young people, they will camp together, cook together and explore the weekend together!

Staying safe on camp

All Scout activities must be safely managed, including on camp. All Scout activities should be inclusive and accessible too.

You must complete a risk assessment and take appropriate steps to reduce risk. You can use the safety checklist to help you plan and risk assess your activity.

Remember to always get approval for the activities, have consent forms in place, have suitable adult supervision on camp, and have an InTouch process in place.

Make sure all young people and adults involved in the activity know how to take part safely.

When planning a camp, make sure you have completed a Nights Away Notification form and have all the relevant Nights Away permits in place. You may need an Adventurous activity permit, too.

For a survival camp, some areas to consider include:
