Badge of the month - Space activity badges

The Scouts Space Activity Badges inspire young people to explore the wonders of the universe through hands-on, imaginative activities. Designed in collaboration with experts such as the UK Space Agency, these badges encourage Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer sections to learn about astronomy, space exploration, and our planet’s place in the cosmos. 

Black History Month (October)

Black History Month is a chance for us all to share, learn, celebrate and understand the impact of Black heritage and culture.

Yom Kippur (evening Wed 1- Thurs 2 Oct)

Yom Kippur, which means the Day of Atonement, is a time when Jews reflect and ask God for forgiveness. It happens 10 days after the beginning of Rosh Hashanah.

National Poetry Day (Thurs 2 Oct)

National Poetry Day encourages everyone to make, experience and share poetry. The theme for 2024 is counting.

World Smile Day (Fri 3 Oct)

World Smile Day encourages Scouts to spread kindness and brighten lives with the simple power of a smile.

World Space Week (Sat 4 - Fri 10 Oct)

World Space Week's an international celebration of space science and technology, and how it benefits society.

World Animal Day focuses on animal welfare and creating a better future for animals.

Grandparents’ Day (Sun 5 Oct)

World Grandparents Day is a special day to celebrate and honour the love, wisdom, and guidance of grandparents and all senior members of our community.

World Mental Health Day (Fri 10 Oct)

World Mental Health Day takes place every year on 10 October, with this year's theme being "It is time to prioritize mental health in the workplace”.

International E-Waste Day (Tue 14 Oct)

Declutter and recycle your unused electricals, and take part in The Great Cable Challenge 2025. Anything with a plug, battery or cable can be reused or recycled.

International Pronouns Day (Wed 15 Oct)

International Pronouns Day helps Scouts learn about and respect people’s chosen pronouns, promoting inclusion and understanding for everyone.

National Burn Awareness Day (Wed 15 Oct)

National Burn Awareness Day raises awareness of the main causes of burns, such as hot drinks, hobs, hair straighteners and hot water bottles.

World Food Day (Thur 16 Oct)

World Food Day inspires Scouts to take action for a world with zero hunger by promoting healthy eating and reducing food waste.

JOTA-JOTI (Fri 17-Sun 19 Oct)

JOTA-JOTI is the world’s largest radio and digital Scouts event. It's a great chance to take part in an international Jamboree and you can earn a special blanket badge too.

Diwali (Mon 20 Oct)

Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is a festival of lights. It's celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and some Buddhists across the world.

World Energy Saving Day (Tue 21 Oct)

World Energy Saving Day is all about the importance of reducing our energy consumption and using renewable sources.

National Apple Day (Tue 21 Oct)

Apple Day is an annual celebration of apples and orchards. It's traditionally on 21 October in the UK, but events happen throughout the month.

World Pasta Day (Sat 25 Oct)

World Pasta Day is a fun chance for Scouts to explore global cuisines, cook together, and enjoy a tasty adventure.

Clocks go back (Sun 26 Sept 2am)

At 2am, the clocks go back by 1 hour, marking the end of British Summer Time (BST). Don't get caught out by the changing clocks and enjoy that extra hour of sleep!

International Robin Hood Day (Wed 29 Oct)

Bring out your inner archer as you channel the legend that is Robin Hood.
