UK Safe Scouting Team

Our purpose

Our purpose is to help make sure that every young person and volunteer in Scouts can take part in activities safely, confidently and with the right support in place.

We work to embed safety and safeguarding into everything Scouts does, supporting volunteers at all levels to understand their responsibilities, meet requirements and create environments where young people can thrive.

What we do

We support safety and safeguarding across Scouts by working closely with volunteers and colleagues to ensure policies and guidance are understood and applied consistently. This includes:

  • Translating Safe Scouting policies, advice and requirements into practical formats that can be embedded in local scouting
  • Carrying out monthly reviews of national performance and supporting County Lead Volunteers to deliver compliance
  • Bringing together safety-accredited local volunteers throughout the year to share good practice and discuss key topics
  • Reviewing performance across safety and safeguarding and identifying actions where improvements are needed
  • Supporting teams to review and implement changes to policies and procedures at both national and local level, enabling Scouts to deliver activities safely
  • Creating resources that help embed Safe Scouting effectively at a local level

Direct support for volunteers

We also provide direct support to volunteers through:

  • Ongoing engagement with safety-accredited volunteers across the UK
  • Advice and guidance to support compliance and continuous improvement
  • Collaborative working with national and local teams to address safety and safeguarding challenges
