As your launch gets closer, focus on building strength behind the scenes. Check in on recruitment, plan your budget, and organise key training to support your volunteer team.

As you attract new members, it’s important to start a waiting list so you can keep track of enquiries and the number of places you have available. You can find more information on our Waiting lists webpage.

If needed, is there anything else you can do to advertise the new Section to potential new volunteers and young people?

Speak with your Group Lead Volunteer about finances as there’ll likely be Group policies that affect your budget.

You’ll have a Group Treasurer who may be able to provide support when looking at expected expenditures and income.

Some parts of your budget may be set by the Group, for example how much young members are charged for sessions. Other expenditures will be variable depending on your Section’s programme and activities.

When starting a new Section, you may have more expenses than usual as there’ll be set up costs, such as for new resources or equipment for the Section. You may wish to apply for grants or do additional fundraising to support you in these beginning stages.

Take a look at Grants and funds for your local Group for more information about grants and fundraising.

Section Team Members and Leaders will need to complete First Response Training.

Ask your Group Lead Volunteer if there’re any local courses you can book.
