Age and membership

Age and membership

This guidance explains how age, membership status, Explorer and Network Service, and extensions affect eligibility for the King’s Scout Award. It should be used to ensure the correct requirements have been met before submission of your KSA Logbook.

Chief Scout's Platinum Award Age Requirements

Be a member of Explorer Scouts for at least six months.

Chief Scout's Diamond Award Age Requirements

Be a member of Explorer Scouts or the Scout Network or both for at least 12 months.

This can include any time counted for the Chief Scout's Platinum Award.

King's Scout Award Age Requirements

Award participants must:

  • Be aged 16 or older to start the award and complete the award before your 25th birthday
  • Be a member of either Explorer Scouts or Scout Network (or a combination of both) for at least 18 months to complete the award
  • Be a member of Explorer Scouts or Scout Network at the time you complete the award

This means members can only start working towards and count activities undertaken in achieving the KSA from their 16th Birthday. Activities and nights away completed in achievement of the Chief Scout Platinum and Diamond Awards can be counted towards the KSA.

Under the age of 18?

When submitting your KSA logbook under the age of 18 you must be able to prove you have been a registered Explorer scout or Explorer Scout Young Leader for at least 18 months and have attended and taken part in explorer activities on a regular

Over the age of 18 and under 25?

Over the age of 18 you can no longer be a part of an Explorer Scout unit so to take part in scouting you must be an adult volunteer or a member of Scout Network (or both).

In order to complete your King's Scout Award you must be a member of Scout Network.

Our assessors will check against the membership system to check if you have a membership number and are registered as a Network Member.

Over the age of 25?

All requirements for your King's Scout Award should be completed before your 25th Birthday.

Your KSA Logbook should be submitted as soon as possible after all requirements are complete.

If for any reason this is not possible you should arrange an extension.

When you submit your KSA Logbook, you should include any paperwork to do with your extension.
