Badge of the month - Book reader activity badge
The scouts book reader badge (beavers & Cubs) celebrates the joy of reading and encourages young people to explore stories, share books with others, and develop a lifelong love of literature. Linked perfectly with World Book Day, it gives Scouts the chance to immerse themselves in new adventures.
LGBT+ History Month
LGBT+ History Month is a time to learn about and celebrate the lives, contributions, and achievements of LGBTQ+ people past and present. In Scouts, it’s a chance to explore stories of courage, inclusion, and diversity, helping young people understand the importance of respect, equality, and kindness. By learning together, we make Scouting a welcoming place where everyone can be themselves.
Activities to try:

- Learn an important part of LGBTQ history and make a pride quilt.

National Storytelling Week (Sat 31 Jan - Sun 8 Feb)
Take some time to read your favourite stories and get inspired to write your own. Learn more from the Society for Storytelling.
Activities to try:
- Tell everyone your favourite story with share a story.
- Create your own story with story stones.
Time to Talk Day (Thurs 5 Feb)
Time to Talk Day is the UK’s biggest mental health conversation. It's all about getting comfortable talking about mental health.
Activities to try:
Winter Olympics (Fri 6- Sun 22 Feb)
The Winter Olympics 2026 will take place in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, the first Games officially co-hosted by two cities.
Activities to try:
- Try a snow sports warm up.
- Prepare for an icy adventure in Snow go zones.
- Try some chilly winter sports.
- Make your own snow with Do you want to build a snowman?
National Pizza Day (Mon 9 Feb)
National Pizza Day is a perfect time to celebrate everyone’s favourite cheesy treat with friends and family.
Activities to try:
- Cook outdoors with Pitta pocket pizzas
- Go traditional with Perfect pizzas
- Use dough to make Damper snakes
Children's Mental Health Week (Mon 9-Sun 15 Feb)
Children’s Mental Health Week is an opportunity to remind Scouts that looking after our minds is just as important as looking after our bodies. It encourages young people to talk about their feelings, support each other, and try activities that boost wellbeing, like getting outdoors, being creative, and spending time with friends.
Activities to try:
- Play 'True or false' and learn about mental health
- Play Better mental health bingo.
- Write postcards and share what you have learnt about mental health.
- Learn to identify some problems people have with mental health problems and come with some solutions.
Safer Internet Day (Tues 10 Feb)
This global initiative encourages young people, families, and communities to work together for a better internet. Find out how it's celebrated in the UK on the UK Safer Internet Centre website.

International Day of Women and Girls in Science (Wed 11 Feb)
International Day of Women and Girls in Science was established by the United Nations to highlight and celebrate the contributions of women and girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
Activities to try:
- Compete in this Amy Johnson's air races paper plane challenge.
- Learn about Mae Jemison and build your own recycled rocket jet pack.
- Make a zine about a famous scientist.
World Radio Day (Fri 13 Feb)
World Radio Day is celebrated to recognise the power of radio in bringing people together across the world. It highlights how radio shares news, music, stories, and education with everyone—even in the most remote places. For Scouts, it’s a chance to explore communication, learn about global voices, and celebrate how radio connects communities near and far.
Activities to try:
- Keep with touch with one another in Private mobile radio.
- Learn about marine distress signals in flare fact finders.
- Learn who to call in an emergency.
Carnival of Brazil (13 - 18 Feb)
This is a carnival celebrated in Brazil, also known as Carnaval.

Valentine's Day (Sat 14 Feb)
Valentine’s Day is all about showing kindness, friendship, and care for others. While many people give cards, flowers, or chocolates, Scouts can use the day to spread positivity by doing small acts of kindness, appreciating friends and family, and making others feel valued. It’s a simple reminder that love and kindness can be shared every day.
Activities to try:
- Make a kindness jar to show someone you care about them.
- Make a special person a personalised card.
- Cook a tasty treat for a loved one by making these Norwegian waffles.
Lunar New Year (Tues 17 Feb)
Lunar New Year marking the start of the Year of the Horse in the Chinese zodiac. This vibrant festival, also known as Chinese New Year or the Spring Festival, is celebrated by millions worldwide, especially in Asia and communities with Chinese heritage.
Activities to try:
- Make a wishing tree.
- Try some Chinese Calligraphy.
- Have a chopstick relay.
Random Acts of Kindness Day (Tues 17 Feb)
Make someone smile by doing some random acts of kindness.
Activities to try:
- Do some random acts of kindness.
- Find out how to use social media to spread acts of kindness.
- Make care packages for the community.
Pancake Day (Tues 17 Feb)
Pancake Day, also known as Shrove Tuesday, is a fun tradition where people enjoy making and eating pancakes before the start of Lent. It’s often celebrated with races, games, and of course, plenty of tasty toppings!
Activities to try:
- Make some tin can pancakes.
- Cook some tasty campfire pancakes.
Ramadan (expected evening of 17 Feb – 21 Mar)
The Islamic month of Ramadan will start on the evening the new crescent moon is sighted. Muslims around the world will fast for 30 days, before celebrating Eid al-Fitr.
Activities to try:
- Visit a mosque to learn about Islam.
- Break your fast by taking part in an iftar.
- Make this tasty treat, Mtbabaq from Jerusalem.
- Make a good deeds jar.

Founder's Day (Sun 22 Feb)
Join Scouts around the world in celebrating our global movement. Founders Day marks the birthday of Robert-Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouts. It’s a perfect time to reflect the history of Scouts and to thank the volunteers who make it possible today.
Activities to try:
- Learn about the history of Scouts
- Learn about the Scout Promise with Aesop's Fables.
- Play a classic game like Capture the flag or Where's the whistle?
- Get outside and bake campfire Bannock bread
Tell a Fairy Tale Day (Thurs 26 Feb)
Once upon a time, someone chose this date to celebrate the tradition of sharing short stories, exploring magical and fictional lands.
Activities to try:
- Go on a Story time adventure
- Enjoy an adapted fairy tale celebrating diversity in nature
- Write your own modern day fairy tale or quest story

International Polar Bear Day (Fri 27 Feb)
