Land registration

Land registration

Compulsory land registration now exists in the UK. If a property is brought or sold it must be registered with the HM Land Registry. Leases with a term exceeding 7 years also require registration. Approximately 14% of property in the UK remains unregistered because nothing has yet triggered compulsory registration.

Registration is the best way to record your title and protect against third party interests. It can be important when applying for grants as funders may require a Scout Unit to have registered property so they can register an interest on the freehold or leasehold title.

If your Scout Unit’s land has not been registered, then we strongly suggest you investigate registering the land regardless of whether it is held by the SATC. You should discuss this with your local solicitor.

The SATC can provide your solicitor with the deeds it currently stores for your Scout Unit if you follow the Deed Request process.

If you have any questions, please reach out to the SATC.
