Keeping records for your section

You’ll need to maintain records for all of the young people compliant with GDPR.  We ask that all adult volunteers details be on Compass. There are rules and guidance you must follow, such as data protection, all information can be found in our administration section.

Managing joining/waiting lists

Scouts has become so popular in recent years that there are now over 60,000 young people waiting to join. As a Squirrel leader, you’ll need to work closely with your local team and the Group Scout Leader, to make managing the list easy and fair. Read advice on waiting lists.

Grants for Squirrel Dreys opening in IMD 1-5

To support our target of opening Squirrel Dreys in areas low on the index of multiple deprivation we are offering a Grant of £500.  It is open to all new Dreys in Indices of Deprivation 1-5 (IMD 1-5) in England and equivalent in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. (It is to support the opening of new Dreys, and therefore, not available for Hedgehog pilots who convert to Dreys nor any of the existing Northern Ireland Dreys).

A grant is awarded when:

  • the group sits in IMD 1-5 or equivalent

Leaders can check if their Drey is eligible via the links below. If a Drey is in an area of IMD 1-5 then it is advised that leaders should liaise with their cohort coach to receive the grant form to complete and return to their Programme Delivery Executive working with their cohort.
