Types of musical ensemble

Types of musical ensemble

There are many types of musical genres/ensembles that can give public performances. These musical groups can be at Group, District, County, Area or Region level and also at National level.

They can include any of the following genres. Please note that this list is not exhaustive:

  • Marching Bands

  • Choir/Singing Group

  • Orchestra

  • Jazz Group

  • Samba Band

  • Concert Band

  • Brass Band

  • Rock Group

  • Ceilidh Band

  • Folk Ensemble

Some of these might form for a short period of time and just one performance; others may be ongoing and require regular commitment.

Ensembles may take in members from several different groups and in some instances are also open to Girlguiding members. Please contact your local District/County/Regional/Area Commissioner / Lead Volunteer to find out what opportunities there might be near to you.
