Becoming a First Response Trainer
Becoming a First Response Trainer
To be accredited as a First Response Trainer the member must:
- Hold a current full member role
- Hold and maintain a current first aid qualification provided by a regulated body certifying their attendance at a 16-hour (minimum) first aid course. This must be used to credit the ‘16hr First Aid’ Skill
- Hold a valid First Response skill (confirmed by another First Response Trainer)
- Hold the skill module 29 - Presenting. (existing recognised training qualifications can be used to credit this skill)
Preparing to be a First Response Trainer
Potential trainers who have the appropriate first aid qualification but not the training qualification can, whilst working towards module 29, help with delivery whilst being supervised and supported by an accredited Scouts First Response trainer.
They may not operate independently of an accredited First Response trainer to deliver First Response learning. The accredited First Response trainer remains responsible for the delivery and quality of this learning and the potential trainer has a maximum period of 6 months to complete their accreditation.
Continuing to be a First Response Trainer
First Response trainers are only accredited whilst their 16 hour first aid qualification and First Response learning remains current. The accreditation will last a maximum of 3 years when it will need to be renewed on the membership system with updated evidence of the qualifications.
First Response trainers who have professional qualifications which provide their evidence for the first aid part of the accreditation must still remain current and provide evidence of this at renewal of the accreditation.
