Members – Age and Gender

Please type in the number of members you have for each age group by Gender. As of 2020, we’ve provided options for those young people who self-identify other than male or female, or who prefer not to state their gender. These columns should be used where you already know this information because it’s been volunteered to you, or it’s been asked in an anonymous way, such as using our collection form or through Online Scout Managers census aggregator. Leaders and line managers should not ask members directly or make assumptions about gender.

We have added these categories because The Scouts positively recognises all genders and is aiming to better understand and serve our diverse membership. We are committed to consulting, reviewing and improving data collection across demographic categories in the future.

Members – Ethnicity

Please type in the number of members you have for each of the given ethnic groups. The gender columns remain as above, and we’ve also provided options for young people who prefer to self-identify or prefer not to state their ethnicity. Again, these columns should be used where you already know this information because it’s been volunteered to you, or it’s been asked in an anonymous way as above. In 2020, we’ve also updated the ethnicity categories to match the categories in the 2021 UK national census. Information about ethnicity is anonymous, and a letter for parents – and a form – has been produced to help collect this information.

Members – Disabilities

Please type in the number of young people who’ve informed you of a disability. As of 2020, we’ve also provided the option for young people who would prefer to self-describe their disability or prefer not to give any more information on what their disability is. These fields should be used where this information is already known because it’s been volunteered to you, or it’s been asked in an anonymous way, such as using our collection form or through Online Scout Managers census aggregator. Information about disability is anonymous and a letter for parents – and a form – has been produced to help collect this information.

Members – Religion

Please type in the number of members you have for each of Religious group. The gender columns remain as above, and we’ve also provided options for young people who prefer to self-identify or prefer not to state their Religion. Again, these columns should be used where you already know this information because it’s been volunteered to you, or it’s been asked in an anonymous way as above. We have added this information for 2022 because we know many religions form our Scouting, and we're keen to know the religious makeup of our membership the categories match those in the 2021 UK national census. Information about Religion is anonymous, and a letter for parents – and a form – has been produced to help collect this information.
