Make young people's voices heard: Launching our new YouShape award

Share

Today, we’re excited to be introducing a brand-new award into the programme for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers.

The YouShape award is about providing opportunities for young people to speak up, share their ideas and shape their experiences at Scouts.

Through this award, we're providing a tool to help volunteers encourage even more young people in their sections to have a say.

And by sharing their ideas and leading their peers, young people will be developing incredible skills that they’ll use for the rest of their lives. Things like teamwork, leadership, communication and more.

The badges feature a striking design that young people helped create. The requirements were developed with young people all across the UK over two years of consultation and testing. There are now more than 500 Youth Commissioners in Districts, Counties, Areas and Regions across the UK who will be playing a vital role in championing this award locally.

Young person leading

This is a big milestone in our youth shaped journey, helping us to embed a youth shaped approach into everything we do.

Young people having opportunities to shape their experience is one of the key objectives of our Skills For Life strategy. Giving young people the opportunity to shape their own Scouts experience is an important part of helping us grow and develop as a movement.
