Gain skills for life

Building better futures for all

Scouts are do-ers...

...and give-it-a-go-ers.

We question and listen and form wide open minds. We take a deep breath and speak up.
We think on our feet. See the big picture. Ignore the butterflies and go for it.

We get back up and try again. We think about what’s next, and plan for it. We jump in, get muddy, give back and get set.

We’re Scouts and everyone’s welcome here. All genders, races and backgrounds. Every week we give almost half a million 6-25 year olds the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life.

Sounds fun? Worthwhile? It is. But don't just take our word for it. Take theirs.

What Scouts say

‘I really like the survival skills, the camping and the firelighting. Joining Scouts is the best thing we’ve done. I’d never get to do this stuff at school.’

Finn, 8th Winchester Scouts

‘Eventually you realise you’re doing it without thinking, and the confidence you had to fake before becomes real.’

Lucy, Tsunami Explorer Scouts

‘That’s the thing with Scouts: They don’t force me to do things, but they encourage me to try. And if I manage it, it makes me feel really good.’

Bella, 19th Wimbledon Scouts

What volunteers say

‘Standing up and presenting, talking to people, working together – most people in the workplace don’t have a clue how to manage, but when you volunteer, it becomes easy.’

Jess, 1st Fenaston & Hilton Scouts

‘Scouts keeps me fit, keeps me involved, keeps me with the young folk. I love it.’

Poppy, 1st Fenaston & Hilton Scouts

‘You see their whole body language change when they realise they’re having an impact. See them thinking: ‘Wow, I can really do something here, and I’m only seven!’ Their enthusiasm is infectious.’

Andrew, 6th East Kilbride Beaver Scouts

What parents say

‘He tells me about the archery and cooking; how they survived the storm that brought flooding to much of the country that weekend. At dinner he’s more attentive and asks his sisters what they were doing while he was away. Scouts has taught my son how to listen.’

Chris, Noah’s dad

‘I remember sitting there, watching Finn having a brilliant time, and thinking, ‘this is exactly the sort of thing people wouldn’t expect a disabled person to do’. You make so many memories at Scouts.’

Lou, Finn’s mum

‘On weeknights it’s usually a case of rushing home to make dinner, frantically eating it, and realising we haven’t had time for a proper conversation. But for an hour a week at Scouts, we talk things through. Try new things together. It’s our time.’

Laura, Courtney’s mum

Volunteer

All of our leaders are trained volunteers, working to make sure Scouting is safe, inclusive and accessible. Some lead the Pack week in and week out. Others visit occasionally to help run a session or drop in to share their skills.
