Using an external caterer

 Choose caterers who know about allergies and food safety. Before you book: 

  • Check their food hygiene rating:

-          In England, Wales and Northern Ireland: Food Hygiene Ratings

-          In Scotland: Food Hygiene Information Scheme (FHIS)

-          Outside of the UK: Check if an equivalent or similar standard exists

  • Ask to see a copy of their food safety management system. Consider asking someone who is competent in food safety to review it.
  • Ask to see a copy of their insurance.
  • Read reviews and feedback from similar events they have done.
  • Discuss and document:

-          how hygiene standards will be maintained

-          how allergen information will be communicated

-          how specific food requirements will be shared with the caterer

-          how people with food hypersensitivities will be identified.
