Our approach to recruitment

How we'll be recruiting our contingent to Portugal 2025

Participant Applications

We want the UK Contingent for the World Scout Moot 2025 to be as inclusive as possible. All aspects of Scouts, including international events like the World Scout Moot, should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their background.

We know from the UK contingents from previous events, that previously, some Scouts may have been less likely to get a place than others. The participant applications for the World Scout Moot 2025 will all be entered into a ballot. Everyone who applies before the deadline for applications will receive one entry into the ballot – this means there’s no need to rush to get your application in on the first day!

Some applicants, who may previously have been less likely to get a place in the UK Contingent, will be offered additional entries into the ballot. The maximum number of additional entries for one applicant is three ballot entries. The criteria used to determine the number of ballot entries includes if applicants have travelled internationally before and if you’ve been to an international Scout event before, whether applicants are care experienced, previously eligible for free school meals, or undertake caring responsibilities. We will also look at whether this is someone’s last chance to attend a Moot as a participant, as well as applicants postcodes to make sure that Scouts from across the UK get the same chance to participate.

International Service Team Applications

The role of the IST is key to the success of the World Scout Moot, and we are looking for people who have a variety of skills and experiences to join the UK Contingent. As part of the application process, all IST applicants will be asked to select what qualities and skills they have. You will also be asked about your previous scouting experience, including attendance at previous international events, however this will not impact the outcome of the applications and is just for our information.

All of the applications for IST also need to include the details for two references. We hope that by including references from some of the people who know you best, we can learn about all of our applicants. Each referee will be asked to complete the same questions bout he skills and qualities the applicant has, as well as questions about whether they think the applicant is up to the challenge of the World Scout Moot.  Everyone who applies within the deadline and has satisfactory references will be entered into a ballot, so there’s no need to rush to get your application completed on the first day! We know that It is important that we send an IST with a range of skills so that the organisers can rely upon our Contingent to help make the event a success.

With this in mind, some applicants that have a wide variety of skills and experiences will be offered additional entries into the ballot. The maximum number of entries that an IST applicant will get into the ballot is three entries. We also know that Scouting is also about developing yourself and learning #SkillsForLife so whilst having these skills may get you extra ballot spaces, we are not offering a large number of extra ballot places to enable those who wish to use this experience to develop themselves the opportunity to attend too.
