How to support volunteers to deliver the YouShape award.
Championing the YouShape Award will help you embed youth shaped Scouts locally
The YouShape Award is a tool you can use to make an impact. It’s for you to champion locally, to help make youth shaped Scouts happen in every section and every programme.
By incorporating the YouShape Award into more programmes, we can make sure more young people get the chance to shape their experience at Scouts.
Supporting volunteers to deliver the award
Section leaders and volunteers might need a helping hand when they’re starting out with the award. Use these resources and create your own to support them:
Here are some ideas from Youth Commissioners:
- Run mini workshops and webinars to explain the award.
- Visit sections to help leaders run their first youth shaped activities.
- Help Young Leaders understand the award so they can champion it in their sections.
- Share the resources and information with Young Leaders.
Resources to help get the word out
Some local volunteers might not have heard of the YouShape Award, while others might not have as much understanding of what youth shaped is all about. As Youth Commissioners, you can help build excitement and get the word out about this new award.
Find resources to help get the word out on the Scout brand centre.
Here are some ideas from Youth Commissioners:
- Send emails and communications to volunteers to tell them about the award.
- Share information about the award on social media (don’t forget to use #YouShape).
- Create blog posts, vlogs, podcasts and videos about why youth shaped is important and what it means to you.
- Share and celebrate when young people achieve their award.
- Include information in local Scouts newsletters, on websites, and at meetings
- Run a launch event.
