What to consider when the suspension ends
If the volunteer is returning
The UK HQ Safeguarding Team can give you specific advice on what to consider when a volunteer is returning after the suspension. Some examples are:
- How to best support the volunteer.
- How you’ll communicate the volunteer’s return, including volunteers, parents and young people, as appropriate.
- How you’ll implement, monitor and review the conditions of the volunteer’s return.
- What they might need to do regain access to, for example premises, equipment, social media accounts and groups, and digital tools.
If the volunteer isn’t returning
The UK HQ Safeguarding Team can give you specific advice on what to consider when a volunteer isn’t returning after the suspension. Some examples are:
- How you’ll communicate that the volunteer won’t return, including volunteers, parents and young people, what’s appropriate to share with them, and how you’ll manage reactions and feelings.
- Ensure the volunteer’s access to Scouts data and assets has been removed and that they’ve returned all Scouts-related physical assets.
- If people need additional mental health support.
- What long term plans, actions or support is needed need for Scouts to continue running without the volunteer.
