About the role
The UK Global Programme Team Member plays a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the UK’s international and global programme initiatives. As part of the wider UK International Team, this role helps ensure that global Scouting opportunities are engaging, relevant, and accessible for young people and volunteers across the UK.
Reporting to the UK Global Programme Team Leader, team members work collaboratively to support the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of international programmes. The team ensures alignment with global priorities while helping to build sustainable and impactful programme experiences.
Working closely with partners and stakeholders, including the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), the European Scout Region, and Non-Government Organisations, the team identifies opportunities for innovation, partnership, and growth in global programming.
UK Global Programme Team Members help deliver a range of established initiatives and new opportunities that inspire young people to become active global citizens. The role is ideal for creative individuals with a passion for international engagement who can inspire local volunteers to bring global experiences into their programme delivery.

Key tasks

Support the introduction of Peace Education within the UK Scouts programme over the course of this year.
- Support the development, delivery, and review of UK global programme initiatives.
- Contribute to the delivery of major global programmes including JOTA-JOTI, Explorer Belt, and the Scouts of the World Award (SOWA).
- Facilitate and support National Scout Organization (NSO) programme exchanges with Scouts from other countries.
- Contribute to the review and development of the Global and International activity badges.
- Support the creation and development of World and Regional event resources (e.g. “Jamboree in a Box”) to help local volunteers engage with international events.
- Work with partners such as WOSM, the European Scout Region, and NGOs to identify opportunities for collaboration and programme growth.
- Engage with volunteers and young people to co-create innovative and meaningful programme experiences.
- Review programme effectiveness and contribute to recommendations for improvement and development.
- Champion global engagement across the UK by supporting volunteers to embed international opportunities within local programmes.
Person specification
- Knowledge of global Scouting initiatives such as JOTA-JOTI, Explorer Belt, and the Scouts of the World Award (SOWA).
- Understanding of global Scouting structures and the role of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and its initiatives (e.g. Messengers of Peace).
- Experience working in collaborative or matrix-style team environments with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience leading or contributing to programme development, review, or improvement.
- Experience engaging with young people and volunteers to design and deliver impactful programmes.
- Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers and staff colleagues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build partnerships at local, national, and international levels.
- Strategic thinking and planning skills to ensure programmes align with organisational priorities.
- Analytical skills to evaluate programme impact and support evidence-based improvements.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and contribute effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Passion for global engagement and youth development through Scouting.
- Inclusive and culturally aware, with the ability to collaborate across diverse communities.
- Creative and innovative, with a desire to explore new programme opportunities.
- Committed to The Scout Association’s values and vision.

This role includes a range of tasks that need a realistic and ongoing time commitment, with flexibility around when those tasks are completed.
