What are Sea Scouts?
Sea Scouts focus on water-based activities and maritime skills. It offers young people the opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork, and outdoor skills while engaging in activities such as sailing, kayaking, canoeing, and powerboating.
Sea Scouts is a great option for young people who love the water and want to develop practical skills while being part of an adventurous and supportive community. 🚤
The minimum standards for a Sea Scout group to be RN Affiliated are:
a. To be an officially recognised member of TSA.
b. Groups to have a minimum strength of 18 Sea Scouts. Explorer Sea Scout Units to have at least 12 members. Where a Group and Unit are linked by a partnership agreement, the combined strength must be at least 24 Scouts and Explorer Scouts.
c. Active participation in and promotion of waterborne activities.
d. Sea Scout troops and Explorer Sea Scout units must be led by an appointed leader in accordance with the Policy, Organisation and Rules of TSA.
e. Satisfactory initial inspection and periodic review by an officer appointed by 2SUDCNS.
- The Navy may send an officer to inspect and assess the group's suitability.
- If the group meets the standards, they are granted official Navy Affiliation.
- If the group passes the inspection, they will be inspected every 18 months to 2 years to maintain recognition
- Badge:Â RN affiliated Sea Scouts wear the RN Affiliation badge on their uniforms.Â
- Pennant:Â They fly a special RN Affiliation pennant.
- Events:Â They can participate in national Sea Scout events.Â
- Grants:Â They can apply for grant funding to support their program.Â
- Experiences:Â They can experience living on board a ship for a short time.Â
- Pride: The affiliation is seen as a mark of great honour by the groups holding it.
