Ben’s brilliant ‘25 Things In May’ challenge
Inspired by his Nanna’s battle against cancer, Ben has raised over £2000 for his local cancer support centre. He’s raised money by hosting raffle, donating his toys to sell and getting sponsorship for giving up chocolate for Lent. Ben's since been busy planting flowers, making chocolate boxes and having dinner with the residents.
When asked why, Ben said it was because “there’re always nice people with biscuits and drinks for when you call in”.
During lockdown, Ben rose to the challenge of completing '25 Things In May' as part of The Centre's Silver Jubilee celebrations.

His 25 activities were focused on having fun, enjoying the outdoors and learning more about the world around him. They also helped him to raise money and awareness for the centre.
Some of the activities Ben did twice, making sure he had something to do every day of the month.
Here are Ben’s 25 things he did in May:
- Found 25 places he’d like to visit
- Drew around his hand 25 times, decorating each one differently
- Discovered 25 facts about sharks
- Made a list of 25 people he was excited to see
- Baked 25 tasty biscuits
- Built 25 minifigures out of Lego
- Took the dog on a 25-minute walk
- Did 25-star jumps
- Collected 25 sticks while spending time outside
- Went on a 25-minute bike ride
- Sent 25 smiles out on social media
- Collected 25 flowers
- Picked up 25 leaves and then make animals out of them
- Completed a 2.5-mile walk
- Drew 25 different faces with different emotions
- Put 25 of his giraffe teddys in a tent
- Did 25 hoops
- Took a bath for 25 minutes
- Read 25 books
- Did 25 jumps on the trampoline
- Set up 25 dinosaurs
- Paired up 25 pairs of socks to a timer
- Wrote down 25 things he wanted to do in a wish jar
- Went on a nature walk for 25 minutes
- Stayed silent for 25 minutes

We think it’s a fantastic achievement and we’d love to challenge other Scouts to give Ben’s list a go, or create their own!

Since completing his 25 things, Ben made a spin to win wheel, raising lots of money by doing daily or weekly spins.
Ben has also completed a 5k walk, raising £100 for cancer centre, before raising another £115 by doing a Christmas raffle with family and friends. He’s also been collecting any loose change in a jar for the centre, raising another £19.36.
Well done, Ben!
