Before we get into the specifics, here's a short video to summarise why we're changing from training to learning.

So what's going on with learning? This video will give you a recap of the feedback we received and how we're going to change learning in response to that feedback. The next few videos will tell you more about what's happening to learning over the next couple of years. We asked people both inside and outside the movement whether they think our training scheme in Scouts is helpful and effective.

The answer was clear. It's time for an upgrade. New volunteers said they found the adult training scheme confusing and overwhelming and sometimes they didn't feel supported. Those taking on new roles sometimes found the training requirements off-putting. While some felt that it wasn't always relevant to their role. Experienced volunteers said there's too much paperwork involved with training and too much time spent figuring out complicated systems.

We have thousands of amazing and dedicated volunteers trying to deliver great learning, and they're struggling because of the current systems in place. We want to do something about that.

Instead of different learning requirements for each role. We'll have a clear and simple set of learning to do. This will make it easier for new volunteers to know what they need to complete when they join Scouts. We're bringing in a digital tool where you'll be able to log in and see your personalised learning all in one place. This digital tool will track sign off and record your learning as you go.

This will mean much less admin for you and much more time for learning and scouting. We’ll also create new content using our learning by doing method to help volunteers put what they learn into practice. More on that in the other videos. We want to improve the learning experience for both our new and existing volunteers.

Over the next few years, we'll start finding ways to help our trainers deliver even more engaging learning with new content for both online and in-person delivery. We hope we've given you a better idea of the feedback we received and how we're changing learning in response. In the next videos, you'll learn more about how we’ll be structuring learning in the future and what learning new volunteers will need to do when they join Scouts.
