International Fund for Non-UKC Events

This fund supports members in financial harship to take part in international experiences that are not organised by UK Contingent.

Last updated: 30 June 2026

Next update: 1 August 2026

  • International experiences away from their home country
  • National jamborees abroad
  • Hosting of foreign Scouts in the UK
  • Exchange visits
  • Explorer Belt Expedition/Award
  • Scouts of the World Award
  • Community development projects
  • Personal development of a young person

We won't fund experiences outside of Scouts or support members who are not part of UK Scouts or British Scouts Overseas.

We won't fund any trips related to experiences as part of the UK Contingent (WSJ, Moot, Roverway).

Young people and volunteers attending a trip can receive a grant.

  • They must be able to demonstrate to the party leader that they are in financial hardship.

A separate application should be submitted for each applicant.

We may prioritise applications where the applicant lives in IMD 1-3.

The party leader as named on the Visits Abroad form can submit an application on behalf of the applicant.

Individual limits

The maximum individual grant amount is the lower of:

  • 50% of the project cost
  • the local grant
  • the remainder payable
  • £200

You may be offered less than the maximum grant.

Grants are not guaranteed until we've offered you one in writing.

Trip limits

Where multiple applications are received for the same trip, we'll fund up to 25% of the total number of people attending. This:

  • helps people all over the UK and British Scouts Overseas to access international experiences;
  • ensures trips go ahead without relying on grant funding.

People attending trip = 12

Maximum number of grants = 3

Applicant 1

  • Cost to applicant = £400
  • 50% of cost to applicant = £200
  • Local grant/contribution = £50
  • Remainder payable = £350
  • £200

Maximum grant offered from UK Scouts = £50

Applicant 2

  • Cost to applicant = £400
  • 50% of cost to applicant = £200
  • Local grant/contribution = £250
  • Remainder payable = £150
  • £200

Maximum grant offered from UK Scouts = £150

Applicants can receive one grant from this scheme.

We may restrict the number of grants each area can receive in any rolling 24-month period, to ensure funding can be fairly accessed by all.

Applications must be submitted at least three months before your trip is due to start.

All conditions of previous grants awarded to the same area must be completed.

Grants must be paid into a Scouts bank account. To make it easy to access funds, this can be any Scouts account.

A brief report about how the grant was used will be due upon completion of the project.

Grants can be used solely for the project they were applied for. Should changes to the project be required, our approval must be obtained in writing before they occur.

Applications must be submitted at least three months before your departure date.

Before you apply:

  • Local funding should be used to support members in the first instance.
  • Speak with the parent/carer or volunteer who is struggling to cover the costs of the trip to ensure they understand how the funding will support them.
  • Review appropriate evidence.

Applying:

The party leader can submit an application.

1. Proof of how much the experience will cost young people and volunteers, such as the advert flyer or presentation.

  • Fundraising targets which will lower the amount paid per person must be deducted.
  • Grants to individuals must not be deducted.

2. Proof of grant(s) to the applicant from local Scouts.

  • This must be an appropriate written communication from local Scouts to the applicant themselves or their parent/carer if they're a young person.
  • This communication should detail how much is being granted by local Scouts and the applicant's total amount payable.

3. The budget for the project. This should show all predicted income and expenditure.

4. The approved Visits Abroad Part A form signed by the relevant lead volunteer.

  • Part B will be requested later in the process to enable payment of the grant.

5. A bank statement in PDF format dated within the past three months (must be a Scout entity). This is to verify your bank details, not to look at your balance!

It should clearly show the following information:

  • Name of bank or building society
  • Name on account (must be a Scouting entity)

For UK accounts:

  • Sort code
  • Account number

For international accounts:

  • IBAN
