Length of Service awards

Thanking volunteers for their continued service is important as young people in the Scouts would not have so much fun and adventure without them.

Criteria

Length of Service awards are just one way the Chief Scout shows gratitude for this service at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70-year intervals (based on the start and end dates of roles listed on the membership system). Service need not be continuous.

All roles in POR Chapter 16: Roles Table with a minimum membership category of 'Member' are eligible for Length of Service Awards. All roles that are eligible count towards the length of service. This does not cover service held in a youth role including Scout Network however, if an eligible role was held alongside these roles, this service would count.

Sending out Length of Service awards

The awards are produced automatically by UK Headquarters and sent out four times a year to District level (and above where relevant) unless otherwise specified.

Cloth badges or brooches are sent out from UK Headquarters along with award certificates based on what each member has specified on their membership profile (under 'Award preferences'). If nothing is specified, a cloth badge will be sent out.

Once received locally, it's important that suitable presentations (with some gravitas) are organised when giving out these awards.

If the award recipient would like a different type of badge from the one specified on their membership profile, they can order additional badges from Scout Store.

Length of Service awards show on a members profile within a week of it being achieved. (It should appear the following Monday, with an award date of the Sunday from the week it was achieved). The actual awards are however only sent out on a quarterly basis.
