Section Leader (Day of Celebration & Achievement 2027)

Join our UK Scouts volunteer team

Equal opportunities

Scouts is an equal opportunity recruiter. We're committed to diversity and actively seeking applicants from a wide range of backgrounds, in particular, Black, Asian and ethnic minority communities.

About the role

Each year, Scouts hosts the Day of Celebration and Achievement at Windsor Castle – a unique and prestigious event that recognises the remarkable achievements of young people and volunteers across the Movement. The event celebrates King's Scouts, Gallantry Award recipients and adult award holders, welcoming up to 2,000 members, families and supporters to one of the UK's most iconic and historic venues.

For 2027, the event will take place on 25 April 2027, and we are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to become Section Leaders as part of our Take Centre Stage team.

As a Section Leader, you will play a vital role in supporting King's Scouts throughout the event. You will guide your allocated section through rehearsals and the Parade, helping participants understand what is happening, where they need to be and ensuring they feel supported throughout the day.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop leadership skills, work closely with King's Scouts from across the UK and contribute to a flagship national event.

Further information about Take Centre Stage and the individual roles can be found here.

  • Help create a safe, welcoming and memorable experience for all participants.

Person specification

  • Hold a Queen's Scout Award or King's Scout Award.
  • Be aged 18 or over on 25 April 2027.
  • Have a strong understanding of Scout values and a commitment to representing Scouts at a national event.
  • Have experience of participating in team-based activities, events or projects requiring collaboration and shared responsibility.
  • Experience of leading, supporting or coordinating groups of young people or adults.
  • Experience of helping to deliver events or large-scale activities.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to guide, support and motivate a group.
  • Ability to learn and carry out coordinated movement with precision and timing.

  • Reliable and committed to attending all required training weekends, rehearsals and the event itself.
  • Positive, enthusiastic and keen to support others.
  • Resilient and adaptable in a busy event environment.
  • Inclusive and respectful of others.
  • Able to build positive relationships quickly.
  • Team-focused and collaborative.
  • Open to learning, feedback and continuous improvement.

This role includes a range of tasks that need a realistic and ongoing time commitment, with flexibility around when those tasks are completed. If you already volunteer with Scouts, please take time to think about how this UK role would fit alongside any other roles you hold, and have a conversation with your current Team Leader before applying.

For some people, taking on a UK role may mean stepping back from, or handing over, another role so they can give each one the attention it deserves and have a positive and rewarding volunteering experience.
