About the role
As a Greater London Regional Team Member (Volunteer Development), you will act as the lead for learning in the Region, supporting and coordinating the delivery of Manager and Supporter learning opportunities for volunteers across London. You will help identify learning needs, align delivery across the Region, and ensure volunteers have access to high-quality, engaging development opportunities.

Key tasks
- Improve the volunteer experience across London by ensuring volunteering is enjoyable, rewarding, and well supported.
- Ensure volunteers are equipped with the skills, confidence, and training needed to carry out their roles effectively.
- Act as the Regional learning lead, coordinating and supporting the delivery of Manager and Supporter learning opportunities.
- Arrange and oversee the delivery of high-quality Manager & Supporter learning experiences across the Region.
- Ensure learning courses are staffed by suitably skilled and competent volunteers.
- Support, develop, and mentor learning delivery volunteers, helping them deliver high-quality learning and meet Scouts’ learning requirements.
- Work collaboratively with the England and other Regional learning Leads to:
- Coordinate and publish course dates across Regions.
- Share learning delivery experiences and best practice to drive continuous improvement.
- Help shape and take part in quality assurance processes.
Person specification
- Experience of working with groups of volunteers to achieve shared goals.
- Experience of working with adults from a range of backgrounds, potentially across a wide geographical area.
- Experience of strategic planning or management in a professional or voluntary capacity.
- Good understanding of Scouting and how we deliver programmes to young people (as a volunteer, youth member, parent, or supporter).
- Recent experience in a leadership role within Scouts would be advantageous.
- Confident communicator, able to present clearly, engagingly, and motivatingly to groups.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen, support, and advise others when appropriate.
- Ability to be assertive and manage challenging situations constructively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Confident use of digital technology, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email, and online platforms such as Zoom, Teams, WhatsApp, and other virtual meeting tools.
- Open to new ideas and motivated to drive positive change.
- Approachable, supportive, and inclusive in working with others.
- Self-motivated and able to manage time and priorities effectively.
- Committed to the Values and Fundamentals of Scouts.
- Committed to ongoing personal learning and development.
- Willing and able to travel within the Region to attend meetings and learning events.
Applicants should have, or be willing to develop, the following:
Knowledge of:
- The requirements for the Manager and Supporter (M&S) Wood Badge.
- How M&S module delivery can be planned and arranged to create effective learning experiences.
- How to manage, support, and develop volunteers who deliver learning.
Completion of Growing Roots learning, and within six months of appointment (if not already completed):
- Module 25 – Assessing Learning
- Module 29 – Presenting
