UK Public Affairs and Advocacy Team

Who are we?

We're the Perception Team. We're a small team with big ambitions. The team is only 2 years old, so we are still ramping up our work and shaping how we want to work. The team is enthusiastic and we all have a great deal of respect for each other - our skills and strengths.

Overview of the role

This is an exciting new role within our team; it's a chance to shape in an election year how we influence public policy. This role with have a direct impact on how we Scout, and how our Young People can engage with UK democracy!

We are looking for a motivated team of people to design, shape and form a brand-new volunteer team to support how we influence policy at a local and national level. We are also looking for a Team Leader who can energise and support the team to achieve great things.

We are looking for people who are excited by politics and passionate about building Scouts advocacy to influence the political agenda so that more young people can gain skills for life.

As an Advocacy Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in helping further reach and impact of Scouts across the UK by promoting what we do with political audiences.

We are looking for a Team Leader and Team Members to drive forward our strategic goals and help support us to show our impact nationally and locally in line with our strategic goals and charitable objectives. It’s important for the team to be politically impartial.

What will I get out of this?

You'll get the chance to work with HQ on strategic projects that will directly affect the movement. You'll get the chance to develop leadership skills and build a team around them to deliver a vision, as well as getting the chance to attend some political events to support Scouts.

You'll get the chance to truly help shape the direction of this team and how this works develops across the UK; as well as being part of an amazing team! You'll get to meet and engage with staff and volunteers from all over, learning all about how everything works in the background and the huge impact our programme has on our young people.

We want to make sure you feel supported, empowered, and that you enjoy your time volunteering beyond your local community, at a UK level. You’ll be part of a friendly team of volunteers and staff members who will support you in your role. We will cover your expenses (all travel and out of pocket expenses associated with the role, according to the expenses policy) and support any other adjustments we can make to enable you to volunteer with us.

If you’re still reading, then you obviously have an interest in what our young people take part in – so we would love to hear from you.

Application process

You can apply for the role yourself using the application form, or nominate someone else using the nomination form.

Nominated people are under no commitment to apply unless they wish to.

A search group has been put together to oversee this process and will review all applications and nominations in order to make decisions as to who to invite to attend the selection stage of this process.

At the end of the application form, we also ask applicants to please fill out our Diversity Monitoring Form. You will be automatically directed to this.
