New Scout and Explorer Money Skills Activity badges have launched with HSBC
The Money Skills Activity Badge will help build young people’s confidence and understanding of money through creative, fun and hands- on activities. There are 16 fantastic challenges for Scouts and 10 exciting ones for Explorers – each with lots of brand-new, hands-on activities.
And what’s even better? Every single one has been designed, tested and given the thumbs-up by Scouts, Explorers and their incredible volunteers. We’ve done local group visits, given groups activities to try, done feedback surveys and spoken to people at wider events, such as Gilwell Reunion. It’s a badge built by the people who’ll actually be earning it – now that’s what we call teamwork.

The brand-new Money Skills Activity Badge is all about learning to handle cash, cards and choices like a pro. It’s based on proper research (thanks, Young Enterprise!), and it’s packed with practical, age-appropriate skills that’ll come in handy for life – not just for pocket money!
We looked at the National Curriculum, did research into what different banks offer young people, and made sure all our MoneySkills badges met the standards for the Young Enterprise quality mark (they did!).

Can I be honest? I know it’s the end of the game now, but can we just play it for the rest of the night? It’s so good. I love it!

But this badge isn’t just for number whizzes. It’s been designed with inclusive learning in mind, so everyone can get involved, have fun and build their financial know-how, such as finding out about borrowing or interest rates. It’s all about learning by doing, from real-life budgeting scenarios, cryptocurrency and digital banking to using money to make a difference.

This brilliant badge is part of a three-year adventure with our friends at HSBC UK, who’ve teamed up with us to help bring money skills to life for young people across the country.
The Money Skills badges have already been a great success with Beavers and Cubs. Lots of them have recently attended HSBC events at Birmingham and Canary Wharf in London, completing the badge on the day. Over 206,000 young people have earned their Money Skills Activity Badge since 2021 too.
So get ready to help Scouts and Explorers earn a new badge that’s all about spending smart, saving sharp and looking out for others while you're at it.
