Lennox's incredible climbing challenge

Cub Scout Lennox raised over £1,300 by climbing the height of the Empire State Building in one weekend at his local climbing wall. We caught up with him about his amazing challenge.

Lennox decided to raise money for the Railway Children Charity, who help prevent children around the world from being homeless. He wanted other young people to have a family, just like he has, as he’s been fostered himself. This was very important to him, and he felt sad that so many young people had been separated from the people that loved them.

At first, Lennox wanted to invite them all to live with him, but after a little persuasion, he thought it'd be best to fundraise instead.

Lennox started climbing at the age of four and it grew into being a huge passion in his life. Lennox and his family climb together now, and they travel in their campervan to climb at different crags across the UK.

Knowing he's good at climbing, Lennox and his family decided on a goal of climbing the height of the Empire State Building in New York. It's a height he could reach in one weekend, but he’d have to scale the wall 23 times in total.

Lennox can be seen rock climbing. He is wearing a red helmet and smile, as he grips onto boulders, while wearing a harness.

Throughout his challenge, Lennox had a lot of support from the local climbing community and from his local Scout groups.

The weekend was tough. Lennox was very tired after the first day, and it was a huge challenge to go back. However, he didn't want to give up, even though his arms were sore, and his body was tired.

The local Scouts came down to support Lennox, as did many others. He got lots of help belaying from people who wanted to be involved, and Lennox completed the 23 climbs up the wall.

Well done, Lennox! Your fantastic fundraising, determination and persistence, and creative challenge idea is truly incredible and inspiring to us all as Scouts.
