Callum Farquhar, OBE, ORS
Callum is currently the Region Lead Volunteer for East Scotland and the Explorer Scout Team Leader in his local village.
Having been in Scouts since he joined the movement as a Cub Scout, as an adult volunteer he’s held a variety of training roles and has been heavily involved in International Scouting having led 136 Visits Abroad to almost every continent and he has participated in 10 World Scout Jamborees.
Having taken early retirement from Local Government where he was a Community Planning Manager, Callum spends most of his time either leading his Explorers in adventurous activities such as skiing, caving, hillwalking and mountain biking or running Japanese Culture classes for primary schools in his capacity as a member of the Japan Society of Scotland, where he holds the Treasurer role. He also spends a lot of time on the road training adults in Scouting to pass the D1 minibus test, saving the costs of hiring in instructors and vehicles.
Callum is very aware of the cost-of-living crisis and ensuring that Scouts is truly open to all. Locally he operates an Intermediate Labour Market providing opportunities for his Explorers to gain work skills whilst raising money for their Scouts activities and has built up a huge range of clothing and equipment so that for every activity, youngsters can just turn up and be fully kitted out at no cost to them or their families.
With many years of experience at both grassroots and managerial level in Scouts, Callum hopes he can bring that balance to the Trustee role and help to ensure that decisions made really do benefit all our amazing adult volunteers working week in, week out with young people all across the UK and Overseas.
