The Baden-Powell Collection

The Scouts Heritage Collection contains a vast collection of material which either belonged to or is associated with the Movement’s Founder Robert Baden-Powell.  These include his artwork, uniform, camp blanket, memorabilia, caravan and papers.

The Robert Baden-Powell Papers

The Robert Baden-Powell Papers are a fantastic resource for anyone wanting to know more about the first few decades of Scouts, the development of the Movement and the issues it faced.

Baden-Powell was a prolific correspondent and his writing covers topics as diverse as Scouts in prisons, banks and factories, to the advisability of taking Cubs camping. He also wrote numerous reports on his visits to Scout events, both in the UK and around the world.

Between 2013 and 2015, the Heritage Department worked in partnership with Brigham Young University (BYU) in Utah to digitise these papers.  These have now been catalogued and are made available through the BYU library website.

The digitisation project was made possible through the kind support of the 2012 Prestonian Lectureship.
