Find your way from one point to another, using only a map, a compass and your brain
How to earn your badge:
Learn about the sport of Orienteering
You could find out about the different types of Orienteering, the equipment that is used and how to successfully complete a course.
Learn about the map colours and common symbols used on an orienteering map
Orientate a map and use basic map skills
Learn how to navigate while keeping the map set to the ground. ‘Thumb’ the map to log your changing position and use the terrain to orientate yourself to your surroundings.
Complete three different Orienteering courses, these could be local courses or at Orienteering events.
Tips
We have recently made some updates to this badge, these were completed in June 2026. You can find the previous requirements for the Orienteer activity badge on this document. If you are working towards the old requirements, you can continue to do so until December 2026.
You can find information about the sport on www.britishorienteering.org.uk where you can also find an event local to you - you do not need to be a club member to attend an event.
