Session summary
Get the whole group and their families together to share some Scouts skills with a great outdoors adventure. This session gives Squirrels an opportunity to share some traditional Scouts activities around the campfire, while learning the importance of how to stay safe.
Safety message
- Plan and be mindful of changing weather conditions, communicate and set boundaries clearly, and have a backup plan just in case.
- Stay in groups, have a buddy system in place, be aware of your surroundings, and have designated meeting points.
- Remember to review your risk assessment to ensure you have enough adults, which may be more than the minimum ratio.
- Always remember to risk assess and plan for free time, even if it's just the first five minutes of the meeting.
- If you are meeting or going out from your usual meeting place, remember there must be a designated leader in charge, who is not counted in the adult to young person ratio.
- Complete frequent headcounts, especially during transitions and activities, to ensure no one is missing and everyone remains safe.
