Scouts! The Musical has just been on tour – with shows in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Bath. But if you missed it, it’s now available to watch on Lounges.TV from all over the world. We chatted with producer and writer, Sam Cochrane, from Gigglemug Theatre to find out more.

Sam, the creative engine behind Gigglemug Theatre is in buoyant spirits. And for good reason – he’s just returned from a run of sell out performances of Scouts! The Musical.

So, how was the tour?

It was great to reach more venues around the country this time. We knew there were lots of Scout Groups who wanted to see the show but couldn’t make it to London in 2023.

We had a great reception at all the venues. However, The Egg Theatre in Bath was very special. I grew up in Bath, so it was always a bucket list thing for me to have a show there.

Were there many changes from the first run?

We added quite a bit to the show itself – new scenes and new songs. We lengthened the show and fully realised it – exploring the character arcs in more detail. There were a few things from the first run which we wanted to develop and so it was great to achieve that in this final version.

Any special guests?

We were delighted to welcome some of the descendants of Robert Baden-Powell, the Founder of Scouts, at one of the London shows. They were absolutely lovely, and that was a real highlight for me.

What sort of people came to see it?

The nice thing was that there was a real mix of people who came along – it was a 50/50 split between those who were involved in Scouts and those who weren’t. There were definitely people who had heard of the first run of the show and didn’t get to see it or wanted to see it again.

We had some older folks – into their 90s, but also some really young people too. We had loads of Squirrels at one performance which was a lot of fun!

How did you get from venue to venue?

We had a van and driver – and we just piled in and headed up the motorway. There were loads of instruments and props, so there was a lot to cram in! We also had some props that didn’t make it from one venue to the next. But that’s just part of the business!

Scouts! The Musical is now available to watch online via Lounges.TV

Tell us about being able to watch Scouts! The Musical online

Lounges.TV is a site which allows people from all over the world to watch the show from their TV, laptop, phone or any device with access to the internet!

This could be a great way to entertain your whole Scout group – perhaps at a Christmas party, a movie night, a sleepover or part of an evening when you’re doing your Entertainer Badge. Or just for fun from the comfort of your own home!

When's it available from?

Scouts! The Musical is suitable for all ages and is available now on Lounges.TV. It went live on 12 November.

Who can watch it?

As we’re only a small company we were never able to tour the show outside of England, despite knowing there're Scout Groups all over the UK (and the world!) who wanted to watch it. Putting the show online is our way of achieving that! It's available to people all over the world. All you need is access to the internet.

How much is it to watch?

It’s a flat rate of £10 (+VAT) to watch the musical, and for that you can show the film to a room full of Scouts, or the whole family. You don’t have to sign up to any subscriptions, just purchase a digital ticket and watch whenever you like!

How long is it?

It’s 1 hour 26 minutes long. There’s also an interval of a minute for a loo break or to get more snacks, but you can pause the show at any time.

How long does the viewer have it for?

Once you’ve bought your digital ticket, you have 30 days to start watching. Once you start watching, you’ve got 72 hours to finish the show before it expires.

Is this the only musical you have on there?

We’ve also just released our latest Edinburgh Fringe smash hit show A Jaffa Cake Musical, inspired by the real life court case which decided once and for all whether a Jaffa Cake is a cake or a biscuit!

It’s written by the same people as Scouts! The Musical and even has some of the same cast members. So if you like Scouts, you’ll like Jaffa!

What’s next for you?

We’ve finished our final live performances of both Scouts! The Musical and A Jaffa Cake Musical. We’re now developing more commercial shows which are less linked to organisations. We hope one day one of them will end up on a West End stage.

This feels like the end of a chapter but we’ve really loved performing these shows to our wonderful audiences, and Scouts are some of the best crowds out there. I’ll certainly miss performing this show, but it’s also nice to have it immortalised online.

Head to Lounges.TV and search for Scouts! The Musical or just follow this link to the Gigglemug Theatre page.
