Collaboration to strengthen safeguarding: National Working Group (NWG) and Scouts partner for trauma-informed practices

Share

Scouts have formed a partnership with the National Working Group (NWG) as part of our shared continued commitment to actively involve survivors, who have lived experience, in the development of the Scouts' policy, learning and resources.

NWG is a UK-based charitable organisation with over 20,000 practitioners (from volunteer, statutory, and private sectors) dedicated to addressing child exploitation and trafficking.

Key to this partnership is making sure the Scouts is trauma-informed and that the voices of survivors are considered in how we work to prevent further harm from occurring.

We have already had feedback from a survivor panel on our Safeguarding policy and learning materials, and their feedback will make sure these materials better reflects survivors’ experiences.

NWG are also reviewing the UK HQ's Safeguarding team guidance around managing non-recent abuse referrals, and the Scouts complaints policy so we reduce any further potential trauma to survivors while they are part of these processes.
