Supporting trans and gender diverse young members and adult volunteers in Scouts

Share

June 2026 update:

We know that the April 2025 Supreme Court ruling stating that ‘sex’ under the Equality Act 2010 refers to biological sex, not gender identity, may have created a lot of uncertainty for many people.

There may be trans and non-binary young people and volunteers - and their family and friends - who are worried about what this means for them and their place in Scouts. We want to be clear that we’re an inclusive movement, and that includes trans young people and volunteers.

We are currently reviewing our policy and will update it in line with any forthcoming guidance from the Equality and Human Rights Commission's Code of Practice. This will help ensure our approach to the Equality Act remains clear, lawful and consistent with Scouts’ values.

For now, if your Scout Group/Unit has any questions or concerns about the application of the Equalities Act, please contact our Support Centre, who can provide help on a case-by-case basis depending on the specific circumstances.

For further support please contact the Support Centre.
