Announcing Sal Montgomery as a new Scout Adventurer

Share

We’re so pleased that Sal Montgomery, one of the UK’s leading kayakers, is joining our Scout Adventurer team

She’s led expeditions across the world and made national headlines in July 2019 when she rescued Scout Ambassador, Steve Backshall while making a first descent of a river in Bhutan. Now she’s taking on her biggest challenge yet – becoming an official Scout Adventurer.

Growing up in Nottingham, Sal got her first experience of canoeing while on Scouts camp and never looked back. The veteran of scores of international expeditions, she’s in high demand – and has still found time this year to support the NHS as a physiotherapist.

‘It feels amazing becoming a Scout Adventurer,’ says Sal. ‘I learnt so much from being a Scout – way more than I realised at the time, which helped shape my future and adventure lifestyle. I feel extremely grateful even to be nominated and I’m super excited to get started.

‘Everything about Scouts is just awesome. Even just the basic idea of bringing people together to have fun, make new friends and learn new stuff. Scouts also creates super valuable opportunities that you wouldn’t have had otherwise, opening your eyes to so many cool things you can do. My family aren’t really into adventure, but Scouts made me see what else was possible.’
