Explorer Try New Things Activity Badge
Explorer Try New Things Activity Badge

Trying something new can be exciting, challenging, and transformative. Through shared experiences, creative challenges, and personal reflection, you’ll discover how stepping outside your comfort zone builds confidence, resilience, and connection. This badge is all about embracing the unfamiliar—and growing through it.
Complete three activities. You could:
Discover - Explore why stepping outside your comfort zone matters for personal growth, innovation, and resilience.
In a group discussion or personal reflection, share stories of when you or others took a risk, what was learned, and how it shaped your confidence or identity.
Experience - Pair up with someone who has a different skill or interest, and teach each other something new.
Reflect on how learning from others can broaden your perspective and build connections.
Mobilise - Work with a younger section or different youth group to design and run an activity that encourages them to try something new or challenging.
Support them through the experience, offer encouragement, and reflect together on what everyone learned about facing fears and growing through new experiences.
Solve - Design a relay or challenge where each stage requires the group to adapt to a new rule, tool, or environment.
Think about how quickly and effectively you adapted, and what strategies helped the group thrive in uncertainty.
Create - Develop a resource, event, or story that inspires others to embrace new experiences and thrive in uncertainty.
This could be a guide to overcoming fear of failure, a showcase of innovation stories, or a toolkit for building resilience through trying new things.
Tips
You could explorer options like learning to paint, coding, or a taking on a new sport. You might also step out of your comfort zone socially by joining a new club, volunteering, or talking to someone you don’t usually interact with. Even small changes, like tasting a different type of food or taking a new route to school, can open up fresh experiences.
Offer flexibility and encourage Explorers to tailor their badge to their interests and skill set.
Everyone has different skills and experiences, so try to consider their starting point when choosing what they will achieve.
