Explorers Teamwork Activity Badge

Explorers Teamwork Activity Badge

Teamwork badge

If you enjoy working with others, building strong connections, and tackling challenges as a team, then try the Explorers’ Teamwork badge!

Complete three activities. You could:

  1. Discover - Find out about a local team which is working in your community or local Scouting area.

This might be a local Scout activity team or District Leadership team or it could be a local sports team, litter picking team or a community team like those running a foodbank.

  2. Experience - Spend a day working as part of a well-established team and find out about the important roles within their team.

This might be helping an activity team at a large camp, joining a local litter picking team or supporting a community group at one of their fundraising events.

  3. Mobilise - Form a team with some people from another Unit in your local area and work to achieve a task locally.

Think about how you’ll divide the roles, how you’ll communicate effectively, how you’ll keep each other accountable, and how you’ll resolve any issues.

  4. Solve - Run three different team building activities.

After running them, discuss any challenges you had with your group, and consider how you might overcome these. Think about the need for effective communication and listening skills.

  5. Create - Produce a team-led presentation or demonstration, that teaches others a skill activity or idea.

Decide together how to split the planning, preparation, and delivery so that everyone contributes and the final result reflects the whole team’s effort.

Tips

    • There are other skills needed within teams and any of these could be investigated in parts of this badge.
All parts of the badge could focus on one aim or you could dip into other teams including scouting activity teams to find out about how different ones work.
    • To get the badge, you can either try some of our example activities, or come up with your own with support from a Scouts volunteer or trusted adult. The activities should be challenging for you and take a reasonable amount of time.
  • You can offer flexibility in the activities and encourage Explorers to choose activities that reflect  their interests and skill set.

We’d recommend an Activity Badge should be achievable within 3 weeks of starting the activities.

    • When taking part in adventurous activities, remember to let someone know:
      • Where you’re going.
      • Who you’re with.
      • What time you plan to be finished.
      • A plan for communicating your progress.
      • Ask for help if you're visiting new places or trying new activities.
    • When volunteering with unfamiliar teams, make sure you have a key contact person to liaise with and understand what to do if you feel unsafe or uncertain.
    • When mobilising in social action locally, make sure you have considered everyone's safety and delegated tasks accordingly, especially in unfamiliar areas or locations.
    • Make sure you have a clear plan, a risk assessment and have checked the area beforehand to confirm it is safe and appropriate for leading team-building activities.
    • All activities for this badge must be safely managed and locally approved.
    • Engage with the young person to make sure they have the key information they need to volunteer and engage with unfamiliar teams, and for those teams in Scouts making sure that the Yellow Card and Purple Card are being followed.
    • Review and make sure that you understand the activities plan and support the young person to ensuring all safety considerations are addressed before it takes place.
    • Volunteers must make sure they have completed a thorough risk assessment and taken appropriate steps to reduce risks.
    • Use the safety checklist to help plan and risk assess the activity.
  • Badges will be available to purchase from Scout Store later in September, please check back for updates.

June 2026.

Requirements can be adapted to suit each young persons abilities. See our guidance on flexibility.
