Explorers Space Activity badge

Space badge

If you've a passion for the wonders of the universe, are fascinated by the next steps of space exploration or just enjoy looking at the night sky, then the Explorers Space badge is the one for you.

Complete three activities, you could:

  1. Explore first-hand accounts from people who have been involved in the space industry or witnessed its impact.

You could speak with someone working in the field or try and talk to someone who watched the moon landing on television.

  2. Grow a plant without using soil.

Find out how things are grown in space and why we might need to.

  3. Find out about light pollution and how this can affect our exploration of space.

Find out about a campaign near you and do something to help them.

  4. Find out about satellites and space rovers, you could practice controlling something from a distance and learn why this is useful.
  5. Using a medium of your choice showcase something about space that interests you.

You may want to take photos, record a video, compose music or complete a piece of artwork.

Tips

  • To get the badge, you can either try some of our example activities, or come up with your own with support from a Scouts volunteer or trusted adult. The activities should be challenging for you and take a reasonable amount of time.

  • You can offer flexibility in the activities and encourage Explorers to choose activities that reflect  their interests and skill set. We’d recommend an Activity Badge should be achievable within 3 weeks of starting the activities.

June 2026.

Requirements can be adapted to suit each young persons abilities. See our guidance on flexibility.
