Explorer Hobbies Activity Badge
Explorer Hobbies Activity Badge

Hobbies help shape who we are. Through conversations, media analysis, and hands-on challenges, you’ll explore how hobbies influence identity, build community, and spark creativity. Whether you're deepening your own passion or helping someone else discover theirs, this badge is all about celebrating what we love to do—and why it matters.
Complete three activities. You could:
Discover - Explore how hobbies help people define who they are.
Meet some people of different ages and ask them about how their hobbies have shaped their identity, values, or life choices.
Experience - Explore how your hobby is portrayed in media, advertising, or pop culture.
Analyse how accurate, inclusive, or aspirational these portrayals are, and consider how they shape public perception and your own understanding of the hobby.
Mobilise - Support someone who’s new to your hobby by helping them get started and stay motivated.
Design a beginner-friendly activity, guide, or challenge—and reflect on what you learned by helping someone else grow.
Solve - Set yourself a goal within your hobby that requires persistence and problem-solving.
Track your setbacks and breakthroughs, and reflect on what you learned about resilience, motivation, and growth.
Create - Team up with others to create something that blends your hobbies together.
Whether it’s a performance, product, or campaign, focus on how collaboration can spark innovation and shared pride.
Tips
Remember that not everyone’s hobbies are the same and work in the same way. Choose something that you have an interest in.
You could also think about demonstrating/teaching your hobby to a younger/older section as part of the Young Leader Scheme.Offer flexibility and encourage Explorers to tailor their badge to their interests and skill set.
Everyone has different skills and experiences, so try to consider their starting point when choosing what they will achieve.
