The Role of District Explorer Scout Commissioner comes with new responsibilities. This workshop will take you through the key areas around your role as a manager. 

There’s no I in Team. As a volunteer manager you line manage your team at Group or District level. This workshop is for Group Scout Leaders and District Explorer Scout Commissioners and will help you create and support an effective and diverse team. We’ll be discussing the difference between managing volunteers compared to employees, flexible scouting, having effective meetings to get people on board, where to get support and how to utilise the strengths within your team.

Futureproofing your Group and Units. This workshop is for both Group Scout Leaders and District Explorer Scout Commissioners and will focus on growth through promoting Scouting, succession planning, utilising young leaders and how your perception in the community can make a big difference.

Whose responsibility is it to recruit more young people and volunteers? This workshop will focus on the specifics of managing the recruitment within your Group or Unit. Such as your role in recruitment, using scouting resources, getting the Exec involved, getting your team to work together to recruit and promoting Scouting locally.

Getting people to volunteer is one thing, but how do we get them to stay? This workshop is for Group Scout Leaders and District Explorer Scout Commissioners and is all about making sure new volunteers get the best experience from the start to the end, meaning they stay with us for longer.

Positive and regular reviews can create a happy and effective team. Prevention is better than cure! This workshop will focus on the Group Scout Leader and District Explorer Scout Commissioner's responsibilities around the review process. Including formal and informal procedures, support around difficult conversations and useful tools to familiarise yourself with in this area. Including role descriptions, the policy, compliance and talent management.
