Writing a great press release

Learn how to write a press release that will help you get Scouts noticed in local media

If you're keen to understand how to boost the local image of Scouting, then this session is for you. It’s one of a series we're running across 2026.

By the end of the session you'll be able to:

  • Describe the importance of a press release and link this to the ‘why’ - it’s not another thing, but will support everything you do locally.
  • Describe the elements that make up an impactful press release (headline, bullet points – first sentence, quotes, active + diverse imagery).
  • Describe the value of using quotes in a press release, particularly from young people.
  • Describe how to source quotes, what to use and the techniques to get the best from those who are being interviewed.
  • Write an impactful press release.

These online training sessions benefit from full participant engagement, so if you book onto this session please be prepared to ask as many questions as you want and to engage in any role plays used during the sessions.

We know from feedback from previous course participants that you'll learn more of the skills you need if you engage as fully as you can.
