North East England - Supporting you with special educational needs, disabilities and managing behaviour

When: Saturday 19 or Sunday 20 September 2026, 10am-3pm 

Where: Moor House Adventure Centre in Durham (Saturday) or Bradley Wood Campsite in West Yorkshire (Sunday)

Who: Any volunteer in the North East of England 

The Durham Scouts inclusion team are opening up their popular workshops to everyone in the North East of England.  

The first part of this session will explore effective strategies for engaging and supporting young people with special educational needs and disabilities – including Autism and social communication difficulties, attention difficulties, and challenges with cognition and understanding. 

In the second part of the session, we’ll explore practical, inclusive approaches to behaviour support within all sections of Scouts. The session will cover strategies for setting clear expectations, building positive relationships, and creating environments where young people feel safe, understood and able to take part. We’ll also consider how to recognise individual needs, reduce potential triggers, and use approaches that help every young person feel a sense of belonging within Scouts. 

The sessions will take place on Saturday 19 September 2026 at Moor House Adventure Centre in Durham, or Sunday 20 September 2026 at Bradley Wood Campsite in West Yorkshire. Both have identical content, starting at 10am and finishing at 3pm. Tea and Coffee will be provided, but you’ll need to bring a packed lunch. There is no cost to attend, but if you don’t make it, then your group will be charged a £10 admin fee to cover the cost of resources.
