Pitching your Scout story to the media

Learn about the different ways you can pitch your story to the media and what makes an effective media package

If you're keen to understand how to boost the local image of Scouting, then this session is for you. It’s one of a series we're running across 2026.

By the end of the session you'll be able to:

  • Describe the elements that make up an effective media package (release, images, video, case study Spokesperson, data. Report third party voice).
  • State which times of day, or days of the week when a pitched story is most likely to succeed and why.
  • Describe the different pitch methods and their pros and cons.
  • Describe how to tailor stories to each type of media outlet (print, radio, TV).
  • Practise selling in your story by phone to a journalist.

These online training sessions benefit from full participant engagement, so if you book onto this session please be prepared to ask as many questions as you want and to engage in any role plays used during the sessions.

We know from feedback from previous course participants that you'll learn more of the skills you need if you engage as fully as you can.
