How to spot stories and devise a media plan

Learn how to spot stories and boost the local image of Scouting

If you're keen to understand how to boost the local image of Scouting, then this session is for you. It’s one of a series we are running across 2025.

By the end of the session you will be able to:

  • Identify everyday stories that happen termly in all Scout Districts and Counties.
  • Describe out how to make these everyday events “newsworthy”, particularly when there are annual, such as Remembrance Day, Pride, Summer Camp, International Trip etc.
  • Identify the key elements of a District/County Media plan (Purpose, audience, Channels, events and dates).
  • Describe the difference and value of owned and earned channels.
  • Describe the audiences reached by their channels and the potential rewards.
  • Outline the next step in developing a workable plan and how they can get involved in activation events.
