Kit list
All the gear, no idea? Find out what you need to take to Roverway
It's important to take the right kit with you to Norway. We're now releasing our kit list to help you plan.
Items are categorised as 'required', which are mandatory for all contingent members to bring, or 'optional', which come highly recommend from previous international experience.
What do we need?
We now have confirmation from the Norway event organisers that all participants and volunteers will need to bring tents. Patrols must ensure that over-18 and under-18 year olds do not share the same tent. IST volunteers should plan to bring their own tent until IST roles are confirmed.
Cooking equipment isn't required, although participants will need eating equipment (like plates and cutlery).
Some paths may require additional equipment, so we'll be re-publishing this list a couple of months before Roverway. Your choice of hold bag may also depend on your path (for example, if your path is an expedition, a wheeled holdall might hold you back!)
Straight on the Christmas list?
Now's a good time to start thinking about what kit you already have, and what new things you might need. Before heading shopping, think if you can borrow or re-use to be more sustainable (and nicer on your bank balance!) Aim to only buy new when necessary, and think about borrowing kit from friends or local Scout groups.
If you decide to invest in new kit, think about:
- Trying before you buy, especially for rucksacks and boots
- Read reviews
- Ask local Scout volunteers for advice, especially those who've been to international events before
- In-store experts can help you choose
- Some stores offer discount for Scouts, such as our partner GO Outdoors
