Explorers COVID-19 safe games and activities
Programme ideas for online and socially distanced sessions
Have an adventure online. Play a game in the park. Try something new in your meeting place.
However you’re doing Scouts, we’ve put together some ideas to get you started. Check out the activity links to help you plan your programme, wherever you may be.
You must read and follow the guidance on getting everyone back together safely before you resume any activities.
Restart risk assessments
Before you restart face-to-face activities, you need to have a COVID-19 safe risk assessment that’s been agreed by your line manager. This is separate to your activity risk assessments; it just deals with controlling risks related to the spread of COVID-19.
Activity risk assessments
You also need to risk assess your activities as normal (and document it). This doesn’t need to be approved, but it’s good to share it with your Group Scout Leader.

If you’re not meeting face-to-face because of the coronavirus pandemic, you can still stay connected with your group online. COVID-19 doesn’t have to stop you trying new things, learning skills, and working towards badges and awards, over 41.6 million minutes of Scouts sessions have been run online already.
Running activities online is different. We know it may feel a little daunting so we’ve put together some activities and advice to get you started. You could also get in touch with your Group Scout Leader or other local groups to chat about how they’re doing things or shadow another section.
Keeping everyone safe is the number one concern for everyone at Scouts. We all need to continue to follow the Code of Behaviour set out in the Yellow Card and the guidance on staying safe online during virtual meetings.
As always, if a volunteer has any concerns about a young person’s welfare (including their online experiences), they must follow the reporting process set out in the Yellow Card.
Delivering a flexible programme during COVID-19
Young people can still work towards badges and awards while at home. Here's our guidance on making the rules more flexible.

Example risk assessments
Once you’ve read the risk assessment guidance, you can download example risk assessments. Edit them for your unique setting; even if the hazards you see are the same as in the examples, your controls may differ.
Young leader training
We’re not meeting as normal right now, but you can still continue your training; these resources from Braid and Pentland Districts are useful for getting stuck into modules and missions online.
