District Trustee Board

District Trustee Board

Scout Network members over the age of 18 are able to be trustees and full voting members of the District Trustee Board.

Members can be co-opted onto sub-committees and they may be invited along to District Trustee Board meetings when appropriate.

If they are invited to participate at this level it is imperative that:

  • they're properly briefed prior to the meeting
  • they're involved in discussion
  • they're listened to
  • they're fully included in the decision-making process
  • they're involved in an appropriate way.

Responsibilities

The Trustee Board is responsible for:

  • the maintenance of any property belonging to the Scout Network
  • the raising of funds and the administration of the Scout Network finance
Where Network is already managed as part of the District, ensure that any existing Network finances are being appropriately managed and will continue to be so. This includes ensuring Network finances are reported as part of the overall financial position of the District
  • the insurance of persons, property and equipment
  • assisting with the recruitment of Leaders and other adult support
  • promotion of the Scout Network.

The way that a District chooses to finance its Scout Network provision is very much a decision made locally. However, there are a number of rules, which must be adhered to, and which you can find in POR chapter 5.

Responsibility for the finance of Scout Network lies with the District Trustee Board. The District Trustee Board should bear in mind the principle of ‘free to join’ and ‘pay to play’. That is to say, local fees if any should not be a burden.
