Protecting our environment

The world around us and how we treat it is so important, yet we need to take brave and bold actions - we need to find our inner tiger.

On sustainability, you’re gonna hear us roar

Our Promise to the Planet.

The world around us and how we treat it is so important, yet we need to take brave and bold actions - we need to find our inner tiger.

We have been taking the lead to preserve, protect and restore nature for many years however the situation calls for urgent action and we must join to make a promise to the planet.

We know how important tackling climate change is and that’s why we empower young people with the skills to campaign at a local, national and international level, to drive forward the changes required to heal our planet.

As part of our ‘Think big’, a unique opportunity to empower young people is through the World Scout Jamboree. This is where young people from across the world come together to share campaign ideas, learn new skills and promote the work Scouts are doing to address the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal on Climate Action.

The next opportunity for such a gathering is in 2023 and is being held in SaeManGeum (Ariul)-South Korea, “Land of Opportunities and Hope”. SaeManGeum (Ariul) is an eco-friendly city where Scouts and nature will live in harmony.

We don't just dream. We act and we will:

  • Engage the whole of The Scouts in offsetting our carbon footprint
  • Travel, throughout the project, in the most sustainable way
  • Have our kit ecologically sourced and, further, we seek to ensure that it’s not wrapped in single use plastic
  • Ensure all decision making is shaped by our young people, is inclusive and includes how we can become more sustainable
  • Engage with other Contingents on sharing best practice for lowering our carbon footprint
  • Support the Scouts campaign by all Units taking part in 'Promise To The Planet' activities
  • Encourage Units to consider the UN SDGs of Climate action in their preparation to the 25 World Scout Jamboree
