Additional Needs Grant

A fund to help support young people (aged 6-25) and adults, with additional needs, who take part in Scouts.

The Additional Needs Grants Programme

Open to both young people and adults with additional needs this fund supports and develops individuals encouraging and promoting an equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment for all in Scouts.

With this grant you may receive up to £500 funding to secure: 

  • The provision of portable equipment, such as ramps, induction loop systems or play equipment
  • Translators, signers for large events or adult training, provision of appropriate signage and information systems at events
  • Training for volunteers to support those with additional needs in Scouts, such as Makaton or BSL training
  • The Grants Department at Scouts UKHQ can’t grant any adaptations to buildings in support of members with additional needs.

Therefore: 

  • The Additional Needs Fund doesn’t cover permanent adaptions to buildings.

When applying please provide the following required evidence to support your application. 

  • The total cost of the project
  • How much local Scouts, such as county or district, are contributing

Applicants are eligible for one additional needs grant award per financial year, with the financial year running from 1 April to 31 March.

The grant awarded covers a maximum of 50% of the total costs of equipment, training or service.
